Chicago Bulls Beat Milwaukee Bucks 110-91: Game Grades

Today, the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks met for the third of their four meetings this year. Chicago entered this game as the heavy favorites having notched two effortless wins in the previous meetings with the Bucks. They did not fail today as they came out with a big 110-91 win. While the first quarter of the game remained relatively close, the Bulls took a firm grasp of the game in the second quarter and never relinquished their grip at any subsequent point.

The big story of the night is Joakim Noah having notched his first ever triple-double in his still young and flourishing NBA career. But I'll get into that more in a moment. Overall, the play was phenomenal. There isn't anything to really complain about. Everyone, from the starters to the bench, seemed to have boundless energy. The ball movement was phenomenal and the rebounding was still top notch. There were a few gripes I had with one or two things about individual performances, but nothing that hurt the team (or if it did, it wasn't too big of a deal tonight).

But enough of my ranting, let's move onto the grades:

Excellent performance. There were absolutely no flaws to his game what-so-ever. He shot a good 50 percent from the field, made all seven of his free throws, cleaned house on the boards, and shut down opponents on defense. That alone would be enough to get him an "A" grade. But he went even further today and passed the ball very well as he racked up just under a third of the team's assists. I hope he keeps his guns blazing, because if he plays like this, Chicago is going to be unstoppable.

A+

Carlos Boozer

Boozer had a great night tonight after starting out very slowly on offense. He turned the ball over three times within the first five minutes of the game, but he got his act together. He shot 75 percent from the field tonight which is excellent for anyone. On defense, he also provided a presence from time to time as he would rotate over, make the defensive play, and then hustle. That came as a big shock to me. However, I can't over look the fact that he would have had a much bigger night had he not continued to fumble passes throughout the game. So unfortunately, I have to give him a major knock there.

B+

Luol Deng

Deng started out the game pretty slowly as he only went 1-6 in the first half. However, he really got his act together and shot 5-6 the rest of the way, including three three-pointers. Deng's offense really got the ball rolling in the second half for Chicago. On defense, he continued to show why he is one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA as he constantly bothered any shot taken.

Richard Hamilton

Hamilton didn't play again. Thibs is saying that he's practicing with contact in practice though which is a very good sign that he may return soon.

Derrick Rose

Rose had a solid game tonight. He didn't have any moments like he normally does where he explodes for 13 or more of the teams points in a row, but that's evident in his overall scoring for the night. He also probably didn't try to do as much given how Noah was playing. Overall, he played well on offense and was pretty solid on defense.

Bench

Omer Asik had boundless energy tonight. I believe that may have stemmed from the way Noah was playing. Gibson cleaned up on the boards (as usual) with 10 rebounds. He added a solid offensive presence by also getting nine points tonight. This marks the third game in a row where Gibson has been a major factor on both sides of the ball, which is very soothing after his slower start to the year. Ronnie Brewer was on fire tonight as he drained his first five shots before missing towards the end of the second quarter. He ultimately finished with 15 points on a very solid 70 percent shooting. And Korver was red hot in the beginning as he knocked down all four of his shot attempts. He finished going 5-8 from the floor tonight. Solid offensive performance from him. Altogether, the bench played an A+ game. However, the instances that made me pull my hair out *ahem* John Lucas III touching the ball *ahem* made me knock it down a bit

A

Tom Thibodeau

Thibs didn't really have to do much tonight. I'd give him an "A" by default, but he played Deng a tad too long in a blowout. So he gets knocked down for that

A-

Team Grade

Overall play from the team was excellent. I can't take away from that just because a few individual performances were frustrating to me.

A+

What I Expect For Next Time:

  • Exactly what I saw tonight. The ball movement was excellent, the rebounding was top notch and the defense was phenomenal. When the team plays like this, the rest of the league better watch out.

This was the last game before the All-Star break. Hopefully you all are looking forward to watching Rose and Deng show their skills this weekend.
